Gifted Endorsement
What is the Gifted Endorsement?
The School of Education offers teaching certification endorsements in the areas listed below. All endorsements are approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, and the School of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
Endorsement Areas:
- Gifted Education
- English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) - program suspended until further notice
- Reading
NGCSU offers the Gifted In-field Endorsement, approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC Rule 505-2-.12) which states: "An individual with the Gifted In-Field Endorsement is in-field to provide direct instruction to gifted students only in the grade levels and fields of the base certificate(s). Direct instruction may be provided in resource classes, advanced content classes and/or cluster group classes."
NGCSU's approach to the Gifted Endorsement?
NGCSU offers a completely online gifted endorsement program. The program focuses on training teachers of the gifted as well as helping regular classroom teachers understand more about the instruction of gifted students.
Required Course Sequence
If beginning endorsement in January:
- Spring - EDGE 6001 - Characteristics of the Gifted
- Summer - EDGE 6002 - Curriculum for the Gifted
- Fall - EDGE 6003 - Methods & Assessment of the Gifted
If beginning endorsement in June:
- Summer - EDGE 6001 - Characteristics of the Gifted
- Fall - EDGE 6002 - Curriculum of the Gifted
- Spring - EDGE 6003 - Methods & Assessment of the Gifted
Student may begin the Gifted Endorsement program in January or June. All courses must be taken in order.
Online Application - for Individual
If you are completing the endorsement for PLU credit, please use the application link below. If you are or will be a graduate student, you will register through Banner.
* Registration for June 2012 classes has closed for PLU credit. *
January 2013 - To begin courses in January 2013, complete online application by December 21, 2012.
How much do courses cost?
Each gifted endorsement course costs $550. Included in the cost is a one-year membership to LiveText, Inc. We will provide you with your account information. This online program is required for all students.
Application - Group
This application is for groups of 20 or more who wish to have NGCSU faculty offer the gifted endorsement at their school or district site.
How do I add the Gifted Endorsement to my certificate?
You have to apply for it when you have completed the coursework. Grades and your degree (if applicable) have to be posted by the Registrar before anything can be processed. Please follow the directions below.
