About North Georgia

North Georgia College & State University offers a high quality college experience in a beautiful mountain setting, about an hour north of Atlanta. With more than 6,000 students, North Georgia is large enough to provide a wide array of opportunities and activities, but small enough to ensure personal attention from professors and to foster friendships among students.

Located in Dahlonega, Ga., a small historic town in the Blue Ridge Mountains, North Georgia is a coeducational public university emphasizing strong liberal arts, as well as pre-professional, professional and graduate programs. The university offers more than 50 majors to prepare students for nearly any career.

The state’s second-oldest university and the first to admit women, North Georgia offers an exceptional educational value, but it also offers an education of values. North Georgia’s faculty and staff are dedicated to the education and traditional values that help students excel in whatever career they choose.

North Georgia is distinctive among its peer institutions in that it is one of only six senior military colleges in the United States. The Army ROTC Corps of Cadets comprises about 13 percent of the student population at North Georgia. Because of this distinction, North Georgia has been designated by the state legislature as The Military College of Georgia.

Specializing in leadership training and developing civilian and military leaders since 1873, the state’s Board of Regents has designated North Georgia as a Georgia Leadership Institution.

For more than 130 years, North Georgia has been helping students discover remarkable things about themselves and the world. Classes are small and are taught by professional faculty – not graduate teaching assistants. This personalized attention helps graduates gain a solid foundation on which to build their lives —a quality education with practical experiences and leadership opportunities to give them a career advantage.

Nestled in the mountains, the gold-rush town of Dahlonega has kept its historic charm and spirit. Students easily walk to nearby restaurants, shops, banks and churches. The campus is safe, clean, and friendly, with the excitement and entertainment of metro Atlanta only a short drive away.

Surrounded by the Chattahoochee National Forest, North Georgia is an outdoor enthusiast's dream, with endless places for hiking, mountain climbing, hunting, fishing, bird-watching, whitewater rafting, canoeing and camping. This area of North Georgia draws many visitors who enjoy its lush forests, stunning waterfalls and abundant wildlife.
