Center for Global Engagement
Connecting you to the world!
Dr. Dlynn Armstrong-Williams
Director
My first study abroad experience was at Brock University in St. Catherines, Ontario. Following my undergraduate degree I later studied in Korea and Tunisia. During my time overseas I learned to play the Janggu (a traditional Korean drum), and also gained an appreciation of the art of Harcouse (a type of decorative hand painting which takes place prior to weddings and other special events in Tunisia).
These life changing experiences created a desire in me to educate students about study abroad opportunities and the importance of cross-cultural understanding. Through study abroad I was able to link the theoretical concepts that I learned in classes to "real life" situations. I believe study abroad brings an added value to the college experience that cannot be found inside the classroom.

I became interested in International Education after I studied abroad at Griffith College in Dublin, Ireland. Once I returned from Ireland I became a Study Abroad Peer Counselor in the International Center at Winthrop University. My study abroad and the work experiences led me to a summer internship at World Learning in Washington, D.C.. During my employment at World Learning I worked in the department for Visitors Exchange Programs that is funded by the Department of State. During my senior year at Winthrop University I was a participant in a short term faculty led program China. All of these experiences have helped me discover who I am as well as my future career goals.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SERVICES
Jared Goodall
International Student Advisor
I got interested in international education back in high school after becoming friends with some of the international students that came to our school to study for a year. I started working in the International Programs Office (now the Center for Global Engagement) at North Georgia in October of 2005 as a STARS worker and fell in love with international education. In 2006, I studied in Germany, having a blast while enjoying the World Cup and visiting my friend in Hamburg. I feel that I can make the experience for international students a great one while they are in the United States and at North Georgia.

Jared became the International Student Advisor in July 2008 and has been having a great time helping students and learning all he can about world from the international students of North Georgia. STUDY ABROAD
Daniela Martinez
Senior Study Abroad Advisor
I have always had a passion for travel, and have been lucky to have the opportunity to travel to several countries in South & Central America and Europe. But my passion for learning about other cultures and languages started when I was in high school and I decided to go to Italy as an exchange student. I spent 10 months in Sardinia, Italy, where I lived with a host family and attended high school. This was by far the best experience of my life!
After I returned home, I decided to look for a university that would allow me to study abroad, and that is how I came to the United States. I attended St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA, as an exchange student for two years, to later stay and complete my Master's degree as well. While at St. Ambrose, I worked at the International Education Office and helped students going to my native Ecuador, and was also involved with all things "international" on campus.
Bio
Daniela joined North Georgia's Center for Global Engagement in September 2008 and works as the Senior Study Abroad Advisor. Daniela is here to help North Georgia students plan their overseas academic experiences. North Georgia offers several study abroad programs so chances are there is one that will fit your needs, so don't be afraid to stop by and talk to her!
Daniela received both her BA in Management and Marketing and her MBA in International Management at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa.

Judy Moore
Study Abroad Advisor
My family hosted our first exchange student when I was eleven years old, and I have been interested in international travel and education ever since. I have visited several countries in Europe and studied abroad in Ireland at the University of Limerick during the summer between my junior and senior years of college. Through all of these interactions, I discovered a lot about cross-cultural relations, made many friends, and learned a great deal about myself!
After completing my undergraduate degree, I continued to graduate school where I had the opportunity to be the graduate assistant in the Explorations/Study Abroad Center at Baldwin-Wallace College. There I advised students on all aspects of study abroad programs, including choosing a location, navigating the application process, and preparing for culture shock. In addition to my assistantship, I interned for a semester at Kent State University in the Office of International Affairs, working more with incoming international students. These experiences further shaped my love for helping students obtain an international education.
Bio
Judy began working for the Center for Global Engagement in July 2010 as a Study Abroad Advisor. She is happy to assist students before, during, and after their study programs and would love to help you find the program that will meet your academic and personal goals. She also enjoys presenting to different groups on campus, so feel free to let her know if you are interested in a presentation, program, or just more information about studying abroad!
Judy earned a Bachelor of Arts in Literature from Ohio Northern University and a Master of Arts in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University both located in Northwest Ohio.

MILITARY INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS
Ronda Carey
Military International Programs Coordinator (Cadets)
I fell in love with traveling and learning about other cultures as a sophomore in high school. My high school Spanish teacher, and her passion for learning and exploring, sparked my interest in learning about other countries and peoples. She introduced our class to a teenage girl visiting the United States from a small village in Nicaragua, and I was completely fascinated by the girl's culture. I was fortunate to be able to visit this same girl years later when I traveled to her town last summer as part of an international service team. In addition to traveling to Nicaragua, I have visited Costa Rica and Mexico and look forward to adding other countries to my list in the future!
Ronda became a part of the Center for Global Engagement as a student worker in 2009 and was hired as a Military International Programs Coordinator in January 2012. She works with US Army Cadet Command and North Georgia College & State University to send cadets from all over the United States to study abroad in countries all around the world.
Ronda received her Bachelor of Arts in English with Teaching Certification from North Georgia.

Scott Wells
Military International Programs Coordinator (Faculty)
I've always been fascinated about other cultures and the barriers that people have to overcome to build a civil, productive, and secure relationship between other cultures. This really hit home when my brother was serving in Desert Storm, and he consistently had to learn, engage, and build relationships with people in the Middle East. It became apparent to many in the U.S. that a program in language and culture would have been an enormous asset. I am grateful to have the privilege in my current role working with faculty who support language and culture training around the globe.
Bio
Scott began in his position January 24,2011. While he is a transfer from Daytona Beach, Florida, he was born in Frankfurt, Germany. Because his father was in the military, he spent much of his early years living in military housing at Barbers Point (Pearl Harbor) in Hawaii.
Scott served as an Academic Evaluator for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and was the Associate Registrar for Jacksonville University. His move to North Georgia was prompted by his love for working in the college environment and maybe a little military blood passed down by his father.
Scott has a Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology from Florida State University. While working at Jacksonville University, he earned his Master of Business Degree in Management & Marketing.
