Next Steps For Accepted Students
Congratulations on your recent acceptance to North Georgia! As you prepare for college, please use this page as a quick reference point for your next steps. Also, do not disregard any letters or e-mails you may receive from the school because they contain very important information.
Admissions Status
Admission to the University is conditional until all appropriate documents, including final transcripts, have been received, and is contingent upon approval of your on-campus housing or commuter status.
- Freshman accepts must provide a final high school transcript, prior to orientation or enrollment, showing that they have graduated from an accredited high school (or a North Georgia-approved home school or non-accredited high school) with a college-preparatory curriculum (17 CPC units) diploma and passing high school graduation tests. Freshmen who have joint-enrollment credit from another institution are also required to submit an official final transcript once final grades have posted.
- Transfer accepts must continue to present a transferable GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good academic standing at the most recently attended college or university. An official final transcript is required once final grades have posted.
If you do not plan to enroll in classes the semester for which you were accepted and wish to attend a different semester, please inform the Admissions Office of your decision in order to prevent cancellation of your application once the semester begins. If you do not plan to attend North Georgia, please contact the Admissions Office so your file can be canceled.
Confirmation Deposit
As a way of assisting the University in planning and budgeting, a Confirmation Deposit is required of all accepted students except for those who are participating in the Army ROTC Program or are former degree-seeking students returning to North Georgia. Please note that if the student pays the confirmation deposit with a credit card, an additional 2.75% credit card service fee will be added to the total charged amount of $200. As a result the student will be paying $205.50. The Undergraduate Admissions Office will accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover for payment of the Confirmation Deposit. Students accepted for Fall or Spring semesters should pay this Confirmation Deposit by credit card online or can mail a check or money order with the Confirmation of Acceptance form that was enclosed with the acceptance letter. Former degree-seeking students returning to North Georgia should confirm by returning their Confirmation of Acceptance form that is enclosed with the acceptance letter.
Students accepted for a Fall semester are required to pay a $200 Confirmation Deposit by May 1st of the year they will be attending or if admitted after May 1st, within two weeks of admission. Former degree-seeking students returning to North Georgia should confirm by returning their Confirmation of Acceptance form to the Undergraduate Admissions Office by May 1st.
Students accepted for a Spring semester are required to pay a $200 Confirmation Deposit by December 1st of the year they before they be attending or if accepted after December 1st, within two weeks of admission. Former degree-seeking students returning to North Georgia should confirm by returning their Confirmation of Acceptance form to the Undergraduate Admissions Office by December 1st.
Students accepted for a Summer semester are required to return their Confirmation form, enclosed with the acceptance letter, to the Undergraduate Admissions Office by April 1st of the year they will be attending.
The Confirmation Deposit will be refunded to students who remain enrolled in courses for at least 10 days no sooner than 30 days after the start of the semester for which they confirmed. Accepted students who do not enroll will not receive a refund of their Confirmation Deposit.
Immunization
All students must provide proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), tetanus, diphtheria and, if 18 years of age or less at the time of classes, hepatitis B. This immunization record must be received by Student Health Services prior to class registration. For further information regarding immunization, please refer to the Student Health Services Web Site or contact Student Health Services at (706) 864-1948.
Proof of Lawful Presence in the United States
The University System of Georgia Board of Regents implemented a new policy which applies to all students statewide accepted to public universities for Fall 2011 or later. Policy 4.1.6 states “A person who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible for admission to any University System institution which, for the two most recent academic years, did not admit all academically qualified applicants (except for cases in which applicants were rejected for non-academic reasons).” As a result, effective Fall 2011, North Georgia College & State University is required to verify all in-coming students' lawful presence in the United States. For more information regarding this issue, please refer to www.northgeorgia.edu/lawfulpresence.
COMPASS examination
As a condition of your admission, you may be required to take the COMPASS examination. If you are required to take this exam, it will be clearly stated in the Admission Status portion of your acceptance packet. The results of the COMPASS testing will determine whether you will be placed in the regular academic program or in the Learning Support Program. We recommend that you to take the COMPASS exam before attending INTRO (new student orientation). You may schedule the examination by calling the Office of Testing at (706) 864-1433.
Housing Deposit
Once the Confirmation Deposit is received by the Admissions Office, the Residence Life Office may access the student's information, including the request to be a residential student. The Residence Life Office will send an e-mail to the residential student, providing instructions for applying for housing and submitting the $250 housing deposit. We offer three types of housing: apartment-style, suite-style and traditional. Housing is assigned on a first come, first served basis, dependent on when the housing application becomes complete and the $250 housing deposit has been paid. Check your e-mail frequently and respond accordingly to begin the process. For further information, please refer to Residence Life's Web site or contact Residence Life at (706) 864-1902.
Advance Schedule for freshmen (Fall semester students only)
As a way of ensuring new freshmen obtain core curriculum classes during their first year at North Georgia, the University has developed the advance schedule program. Accepted freshmen students who have returned their Confirmation Deposit prior to the May 1st deadline, are given the opportunity to complete a short Advance Schedule form, beginning in March, via www.northgeorgia.edu/advanceschedule. A letter and/or e-mail will be sent to these students, with instructions for completing the Advance Schedule form. Students should submit their advance scheduling requests online before the May 13th deadline and they will receive their class schedule at INTRO (new student orientation). Students may add classes or make changes to their class schedule at INTRO.
Student Email Account
You are given a North Georgia student e-mail account on the first Wednesday following your acceptance. Please establish a routine to review e-mails sent to your student account by going to northgeorgia.edu and clicking the E-mail link at the bottom of the screen. Follow the directions to login to your Google Student E-mail account. If you have questions regarding your email account or you encounter difficulties logging into your email, please call the IIT help desk at 706-864-1922 or send an e-mail to helpdesk@northgeorgia.edu.
Student e-mail is the official channel of communication between the University and its students. It is the responsibility of the student to periodically monitor his/her student e-mail account and be aware of the information sent by the University. Lack of knowledge that results from failure to monitor University e-mail communications will not excuse students from complying with University policies, procedures and/or deadlines and will not be considered grounds for appeal for relief from those policies, procedures and deadlines.
INTRO
We strongly urge you to participate in North Georgia's INTRO (new student orientation) program. At INTRO, you will meet new students and your academic advisor, receive information concerning student life, and register for your classes. New freshmen, joint-enrolled high school students, and transfer students who have paid the Confirmation Deposit at least one month prior to INTRO will be mailed an invitation until this event has met capacity. All students must register to be eligible to attend. This program covers basic information for students, advisement, and registration. For further information, please refer to INTRO's Web Site or contact the Orientation Office at (706) 864-1010.
Advisement and Registration
So that your academic department will have all the information needed to help you prepare for course registration, please submit official copies of all advanced placement scores (AP, IB, CLEP, and other score reports) to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as soon as possible. Advisement and registration will occur through advance scheduling (freshmen only) or during INTRO (new student orientation). For students who do not attend INTRO, advisement will occur on the day of registration. Registration instructions, including registration dates, will be available at the Registrar's Web site.
Transfer Students
Academic transcripts are evaluated to determine which credits North Georgia will accept and how these credits will transfer. The Office of the Registrar conducts the evaluation and will mail your completed evaluation to you only after your have been accepted. Should you have any questions regarding the evaluation, please call (706) 864-1760 or send an email to regoff@northgeorgia.edu. Please be aware that an official transcript is required from each college or university you attended (even if you withdrew) for work completed prior to your enrollment at North Georgia. A final, official end of term transcript is required from any college or university in which you are currently enrolled.

Notice Regarding Online Courses
Recently enacted federal regulations requiring enforcement of state laws regarding the delivery of distance education degrees, programs and courses to students whose physical presence is in a state other than Georgia may limit North Georgia's ability to offer online opportunities to these students. If you wish to enroll in one of our online offerings and are located in a state other than Georgia, please inquire before enrolling to determine if we have acquired permission to offer online courses in your state. You may email your inquiry to onlineapproval@northgeorgia.edu. (Please note that this email address is exclusively for questions regarding state approval of online offerings.
